    Hey Everyone,

I've been out of the game for awhile now but got quite excited all of a sudden. I have a 55 gallon fish tank and would like to connect another 20-30 gallon fish tank to it. I was thinking an overflow box down to my 2nd tank. I really want to add more live rock and observe everything grow in my 2nd tank. Does anyone have any previous experience with this before? Oh i forgot to mention that i want the 20/30 gallon to be lateral to the main tank so i can watch things grow in it as well (not like a refugium that is located right under the main tank). Thank you everyone for your help! any tips or comments are welcome :)

I recently setup something similar to this but with a 10 gal as second tank.

basically overflow from large main tank goes into the seconds tank which is slightly lower ( the tank hight difference between a 20 and a 55 takes care of that). then the 2nd tank overflow goes to the sump. sump returns to main tank. depending on if you want a different flow in smaller tank you can T the overflow from main tank and send part of water directly to the sump.

what i did is in pic below to put a picture to the idea. it should work just the same with a 20/30g second tank holding fish as it does for my 10g fuge
