So everyone knows that whenever you add fish to your tank, you have to take into consideration the amount of waste that the fish will produce. But what about corals? What is the 'waste' that is produced and is it more or less significant based on the type of coral?

I know with anything that requires feeding that you will always need to consider the excess food that is entering the system, but is that all?

Which corals are we talking about? Generally speaking, corals do not contribute to bioload. Also, very few corals even need to be fed.

I fully agree with packleader. Now, if you a cube of mysis to feed the corals, then you many want to consider the effect then, but usually it's no big deal.

I wouldn't worry about the waste from corals.. And it all depends on the corals..
I do run carbon now and then because some release toxins (sp). That can harm other corals. Carbon helps remove it.. JMO .. Most are filter feeders .. I hand feed all mine..
But I have plenty of time... LOL
And some like bits of meat.. And SOME have to be fed.. Just depends on the type..

    Good Luck, Larry

from my understanding it is just fish don't worrie about bioload from inverts. some inverts convert or break down wastes. Such as it is said that some belive that anenomes with host clown do better then without for the waste that is produced by clowns give some sort of nurishment to anenomes ( I have herd or read this but never found anything to back it up so take it as you will). But no question is stupied as long as you learn something from it.
