Possible sump inflow gurgle solution???

Pretty simple once you see it. I just used 2- 90deg pvc elbows to do it.

 

How much of that is PVC pipe and how much is hose? Am I correct in seeing the thickness of the lines correlating to an increasing diameter of pipe?

All of mine is pvc, but I do use some flex pvc in certain places. You are right with the increase of pipe size. The larger you go the more pressure it takes out of the water and it will just flow to the surface. Also helps keep bubbles at the surface to instead of them getting thrown to the bottom splashing around.

 

Hmmm. With my limited space I'm not sure I'd be able to work pvc all the way down to the sump. I might have to use hose from the overflow to the sump and then attach the u-tube. Of course, I'm wondering how I'll convince the u-tube to stay in the correct position if it's attached to hose.......

 

seems like a good idea, but not easy to use a filter sock with it, I may try going down halfway so I can still slip the sock under it.

 

I'd loose the filter socks myself.. why filter out the food you pay for If you want to apply any mechanical filtration I'd use a passive type myself .. I run all my skimmer outlet water through carbon and some floss all placed in a hang on rim type display specimen cup and change the floss out every couple of weeks . I'd guess 60% of my water just runs through the sump and back to tank. Just a thought to consider .. And one less thing to cause a problem or have to mess with .

 

If you had room enough to get the hose down there to the sump then the pipe is smaller .. Also the corrugated ridges in the pipe cause a lot more sound then a solid pipe and the hose also causes slower drainage to sump.. I'd get it hard piped and I have seen the hoses split and also vibrate out of the little ends that fit over the pipe .

 

hmm, thats an interesting idea. Might be worth a shot.
