possible tank crash

    he added about 40 lbs of sand has roughly 25-30 lbs live rock. took his star polyps and all that n sat in the corner of the tank.... water was in the 5 gallon jugs maybe 15 minutes from tap to tank

    40 gallons at 1.028 35 gallons at recomended mixtures whats that to 1.022-1.024 the 15 non salt shouldn't drop the gravity to 1.016

    What's important is that we learn from our mistakes.

    How can one "shake" a 5 gallon jug? I don't think I've ever seen one of those. That would be more than 40 lbs. Sounds like your friend is a strong fella.

    Once water reaches saturation point with a solute, no amount of shaking or time is going to allow said solute to dissolve. In other words, if you put a cup of salt in a cup of water, cap it up and shake it, there will still be granular salt in that cup even if shaken for an eternity.
