I was moving some rocks yesterday and one fell onto the sand bed. He was bright pink and kinda fat with catapiller looking things. Diddnt look like any bristle worm I have seen before thou. Anyone else seen one of these bright pink worms?

I have read about a bright pink caterpillar looking worm but I cannot remember where...I will try to find the reference.

The Blenny that suffered the worms wrath still seems to be OK, the spines have been either breaking off or dissolving and are not near as visible as they were.

I bought the trap and put it where I have seen this wormie, the worm immediately came out and started into the trap   but I think the hole was a little too small and it backed out. I enlargened the hole and we will see, also I think the worm didn't want to go into the lights so it probably will not go fully into the trap until night.

I baited the trap with Mysis. Don't get the wrong idea I don't hate bristle worms, just this one. [smiley=rifle.gif]

    Any thoughts appreciated!!

    Drew.

I would leave the worm in the tank :) Boo would have learned a good lesson not to try to eat THAT worm :)

Wow, that looks nasty. I hope he heals fast.

    Worm vs. Fish.

Guess who looses in my tanks?

Kind of hard to believe that the barbs are not stressing the blenny out.

Right now I'm a little paranoid myself. I've been staring at the new Carib LR I just purchased as it cures. I found a couple dead bristle worms in the packing material. I understand Carib rock has a lot of them. I know they are supposed to be good sand mixers and detritus eaters, but I've had marine tanks on and off since the early 80s without them and I don't think they are really critical and worth stressing fish out over. Just my $.02.

Hello Y'all and thanks for your concern,

I am happy to report that little Boo is doing just fine and doesn't seem any worse for wear after the attack although I am sure he's still somewhat groggy. [smiley=goofy.gif]

I attempted to catch the worm and somehow it managed to finagle its way out of the trap...I'll probably try again tonight. I might try pulling it out of the tank while it is half way in the trap. I read that you are not supposed to leave the head in if it seperates as it will grow back. If I can't get it tonight, then I'll just wait 'till it really gets too big and get it then.

The trap didn't catch any other worms but that may be the result of there already being food around for them to eat. In general I don't hassle the worms.

Just thought I'd let you know!!

    Thanks again...

    Drew

Was it the trap that consists of 2 tubes that fit inside each other that holds the food in the middle and a siphon shaped entrance on both ends? If so, I'd like to know if it works.

    Thanks,

    Bruce

Yeah, Blade, it's green and two tubes, food in the middle. I the observed the 4 inch worm I was trying to catch start to go into the trap but I think because it was daylight it backed out. I left it overnight and the bait was gone but no worm, however I had enlargened the hole, so maybe it got out. >:(

I am going to try again with the smaller hole pointing at the rock that I suspect it is still under and will post the results tomorrow!! ;)
