Also, there are only 7 mfg in the world that make notebooks. Everyone else, just rebrands. Acers & eMachines are not high on that list of good notebooks. I have a Gateway notebook that is over 7 years old, runs great, & has the original battery that still holds a charge.

I would say Toshiba, IBM, Gateway, Sony, Dell, HP, Compaq (depending on the lot).

I know Dell and Macs tend to have a premium on the price - mainly because you are paying for the name. But I do not want a Dell and can't afford a Mac anyways. lol.

I would like 4GB RAM, maybe an intel Core i5 processor, and 500GB HDD, but I can always get portable HDD.

    Thanks, all, for the replies.

I didn't think Acer was up there on that list, but I saw some nice ones and was just looking around. I think I will probably end up getting an HP. I will check out the ones you mentioned though as well.

Macs are worth it. they are built amazingly well and are very user friendly.

    I forgot about refurbished.

I know macs are worth it. My school recently got probably 150 of the new imac 27". They are very nice (run very hot though). I just don't have the budget for one.

Oh, I was just replying to John because he keeps talking about how expensive they are.

I know you can't afford one! LOL Don't worry, you aren't talking to a wall! ;D

    I'd probably go with HP.
