I would imagine that research never pays back enormous dividends over long time frames in your mind, then?

Sorry, but the reason for the past 60 years leading to now is because of massive government and private spending put into research. Government traditionally is better at basic science research (look at a project like CERN; you never really see that kind of stuff in the private sector), while private research goes towards doing things with those basic principles (look at an iPhone; implements many basic principles discovered by government spending, much of which was directed towards getting people to the moon).

If this is some sort of discovery like life on another planet, or even just amino acids forming on Europa, that's information that most definitely gives us a better understanding of chemistry (among other fields), and requires government spending, not private spending, on research.

In sum, every government dollar "wasted" on 'basic' research like this will generate billions in the private sector in the long haul.

I can't wait to find out what it is either. I would think it is either a microbe found on Mars or the correct mix of elements to sustain life on an exoplanet.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The images are actually out there of this ET. The remnants of it are encased in what they are calling a " Ice Meteorite". It was found by an amature meteroite hunter that found it in 2000. I guess he knew he had something, but could not get it tested secondary to cost. It eventually got tested by NASA.

Just can not find the link right now...........
