So I love my 55. It was a good experience piecing together an entire system piece by piece and building a stand, drilling an overflow etc.. I've come to a point where after 2 years up and running and between 2 jobs and school I don't have the time I need for the 55g. I'm strongly considering transferring what I can and setting up a biocube system. Due to my poor design of setting up my overflow piping and sump, I'm constantly battling leaks and other problems, which makes the idea of an all in one appealing.

I'm just looking for any guidance or advice anyone can offer if I go this route. I am going to reuse the best of my rock and go with new sand. Water changes are behind so I will probably mix up a new batch also. I'm sure I'm missing lots of things..

I think it's not a bad idea, the biocubes are pretty sleak. Definitely go with brand new RO/DI water, new sand and let the tank cycle (as I'm sure you were going to do anyways).

Nothing, most/many are fully tempered for some reason though.
    Obviously, yours was not.

Most 55 longs have tempered glass on all sides. You must have been lucky :)

    Edit: What Todd said!

Maybe now they are. I did all the tricks I know for checking if it's tempered then just went for it. Worked out well

What are the best preventative steps to take so that any of the hair algae in my current setup will not transfer into the biocube?
