Like many SPS keepers, I have been interested in the potential for Potassium supplements, in relation to tweaking colours (blues and purples) in their corals

until yesterday, whilst I was able to purchase Potassion (Brightwells Potassium additive) I had not been able to locate a test kit for this additive

that has now changed, with the Salifert Pottasium test kit, found during a visit to the aquarium market after work yesterday (I type after work in case my employer ever finds this site)

test kit is very simple to use - as are all the other Salifert Kits I currently own (Mag, Calc, Alk, Phos, Nitrate)

1st and 2nd test conducted yesterday (It is new and thus repeated test to ensure consistency in my findings)

My SPS tank has a potassium level somewhere between 360 and 390

my target is 400ppm, so I have decided to err on the side of caution and take 390 as my present figure, thus only dose enough to bring it up to 400

will take some pictures of a few blue/ purple corals over the weekend
and will update, with any changes observed, during the dosing of Potassium

    Steve

This will be good. I wonder if K in SW is the same as in FW. I know in FW planted that too much does not cause problems for the plants or fish but them again the concentration should be much lower also.

i was having trouble getting the blues in my SPS to brighten and someone I was talking to mentioned to check my K that it was probably low. As you said it is IMPOSSIBLE to find. I finally ordered online the Elos Potassium kit (costs about 40.00) and it is very hard to test IMO. I tested mine and it was like 460. Honestly, since that time I hadnt tested again as it is so hard and my colors have been stable. I might have to look into the Salifret kit.

I purchased the brightwell potasion at the time i ordered the test kit..........as this product is not available in where near us.

I found this comment on another forum from a salifert rep, Habib.

"The test can be performed in about 90 seconds. Sharp color change, even more sharper than in the video.

The test kit's resolution is 15 ppm, combine that with the ease and the sharp color change, it gives a highly accurate potassium test kit.

We believe that it is a revolution in potassium testing."
