I've had this pbt about 2 months, and he is a really odd fish.

I'm curious if it's normal for them.

He loves to swim directly in front of a koralia 1400 he's a large fish but still gets like thrown around by it

He's also a coward my yellow tang will bully him and the yt is at least 3 times smaller then him. It's not excessive just when he dare goes to the yts cave

The final strange behavior is he dive bombs my brain if I leave it on the sand, that's the only coral he messes with

Is he just weird or some underlying thing

I have had a smaller PBT in my 70g for about 3+ months. It's the king of my tank. Very aggresive to any newcomers, no matter how large or small. I haven't noticed any behavior like you mentioned, it doesn't disturb any of my corals. At times, it attacks its own reflection and also zooms back and forth in front of the tank when I sit in front of it.

Was your YT there before it? If so, I would think it's much more aggresive defending it's established territory.

I just got a powder brown and he does the same thing with the power heads, he also is a wimp and gets pushed around by a butterfly fish.

it has a lot to do with when a fish was added, who was there first, I think smaller or larger would defend with the same ferocity. Just look at how territorial damsels get, they are pint sized but would die to defend their territory.

my pbt plays in front of the powerhead too. Actually, my desjardini does it even more than the pbt. the pbt does defer to the desjardini most of the time but the sailfin is twice his size and was first in the tank. the pbt is actually the more aggressive and would probably rule the tank if things were equal. i have never had a yellow but hear that they can be quite feisty as well.

i have never witnessed any dive bombing of corals by either of my tangs.

Yeah the yt was added first,

But I did a major reaquascape before they went in.

The bullying is minimal, I guess they both kind of defend their caves, but the pbt is dumb and constantly wanders in the yts cave

I'm more concerned with the swimming at the powerheads it's just odd!

The Powder blue tang inhabits shallow, clear coastal and island coral reefs. Maybe that's why they like to hang out in front of the power heads.
