powder blue tang has pop eye

my powder blue tang has developed pop eye in the past few hours.. how do i treat this? will it spread to the other fish who are showing no signs of distress? and what causes pop eye?..... the only thing i have changed in the past week is ive added vertex bio pellets, started them last night.

 

I believe pop eye is bacterial...so you could try beating the infection with lots of water changes, to keep the water pristine, or you could try Melafix - it's a natural antibacterial. It won't harm coral or live rock. It doesn't always work though. There are stronger antibiotics, but they will harm live rock and other creatures, so you would have to QT the fish.

The best treatment is better water quality. it can be reversed but it takes time.

 

My achilles got pop eye back in march, Treated with melafix, did extra smaller water changes, and feed nori soaked in vitamin c and zoe. Fixed it in a few days.

well i just got home from work.picked up melifix.....the tang is laying on the bottom barely hanging on.i tested my water and i have untraceable amounts of trates trites and ammonia
