i am pretty sure the free swiming stage of ich can only live a couple days (if that long), but the dormant stage where it attaches to rock/sand/ whatever can live for something like 6 weeks

I was told if you dont have a uv sterilizer its always there but you might not notice it because your fish are healthy enough to fight it off.A little bit of stress can make their system weak enough for the attack.

It takes around 6 - 8 weeks of a tank being fishless to starve out ich, if you have any more questions regarding ich, a new thread might be appropriate.

Powder browns and powder blue tangs are one of the most susceptible fish to get/ transmit ich.

I personally would not attempt to keep one in a 75g tank. I don't know if I would try one in my 200g tank.

    powder brown

I know this thread is old and no one will look at it but oh well. Iv gone through both a nado tang and a powder blue, both had twrrible ich problems, i had to trade both off to a friend who had a 200 gallon with insane uv and other fun stuff. I got a uv and a week later fell in love with a powder brown at the store I work at, I bought it and have had it for a year, in my 75, not once has he got ich and he seems to be the happiest fish i have ever owned, I would highly recomend a powder brown over any tang... Other than an achilies!

even though this is an old thread thought I'd add some of my personal exp with my Powder Blue. I have had bunch of Tangs at different points, I've never had one come down with Ich luckily.

A Powder Brown will def slowly outgrow a 75g but can be kept in one when it's small. My exp with my small Powder Blue was that it did great in my 70g for the time I had it. However, because of the size of the tank, it quickly took the whole tank over. It would try to kill any new fish I tried to add after it, even small, docile ones.

So, my advice is if you truly want to have a Powder Blue/Brown in a tank smaller than 150g+ that it's best to get a very small one. And be prepared to add it last, if you want any harmony in your tank. As they get larger, upgrade your tank accordingly or sell/trade them back.
