    Hello,

I am setting up a new (used) tank and want to keep both corals and fish in the tank. I already have 2 workhorse 8 ballasts and 4 sockets for 96W power compact bulbs. What is the best mixture of bulbs to put into this setup? I can go with 10k, 50/50, or True actinic. Thanks!

I usually go with a mix of 10k's and true actinic.
I have never been much of a fan of 50/50's when you do not have to use them. I would get 1/2 10k and 1/2 actinic's and you should be fine.

I agree with jtReef, That combo worked best for me when I used power compacts.

So is 2 10K 96W bulbs enough light for the corals? Should I run the lights together all the time, or create a sunup, sundown timer with the actinics and a 8 hour daylight schedule with the 10ks? Thanks!

What size is the tank? I use the sun up / down effect, like it better that way and its more natural for your inhabitants.

Its enough tfor corals... Not all type though. You migh have problems with more light demanding ones. You would have to place them way up high in the tank. But you can keep softies and allot of SPS with that much light. IMO.
