Here is a good idea for you guys, probably heard it before but here it goes.
You can find power inverters for 30dollars nowadays.I have a 300watt inverter but probably will look into getting 1000watt.all i did was buy the inverter and then went and bought a deepcycle marine battery and a (battery maintainer(20dollars).
I put the battery in the basement and ran wires up to the inverter that is behind my desk.when ever the power goes out i just plug into the inverter.
It runs my pumps and my backup 150watt heater and my computer.I have a way to make it automatic switch over if the power goes out but want a bigger inverter first.

I Actually use 2 batteries but 1 will do.I have 12 to 14 hours backup power at 300 watts.

wow, so sorry Bruce. I shocked. Are you saying all your little guys died because of the temp change ???? Oh my, I never knew it was the critical...Mine changes 5 degrees from a warm afternoon to a cold night...!!!!

Or did I mis-understand...did it got colder than that?? Or no pump action??
I haven't made a backup plan for power failure. My GF's( opps!!! Fiancé now!!! :) power didn't even go out during the hurricane season of 2004...so I never had to experience that yet.....

I have a generator that will do 22 amps full load. This is large enough to handle the water heater and nothing else, or the fridge and some lights and the aquarium stuff and even some fans. A refrigerator does not pull that much current. Make sure the generator is rated for electronic devices or youll need a power conditioner if you want to run your computer or television.
