Hi, the power company sent a letter saying the power will be down for about 4 - 5 hours (i reckon its gonna be more though) in a couplea days. What you reckon I do?
Is it that drastic that I should try and run the powerhead off a UPS? Will no flow and no heater cause major dramas? The tank is 4 weeks old with no livestock apart from a whole lot of pods.

Every time that happens to me I just bust out the good old reliable battery operated air pump. That will keep your tank with O2 and circulated. Luna

Also matters what the temp is outside / in house. Don't want the waters temp to get too high.

Battery operated air pump! Amazing technology lol! I must get myself one! Or even my little air pump running off the UPS should last the 5 hours. I never thought of using the air pump, thx.

High temp wont be a problem, the tank will drop to about 20C (68F) though.

My power has been out for about that long and I wasn't even home, I had no ill effects. This is also why I prefer to keep my tank more lightly stocked too.

+ 1 on battery operated air pumps, I have 3 just in case, got them from the fishing tackle shop , they are supplied there for keeping bait oxygentated

have personally experienced power cuts up to 8 hours each time, with no noticeable ill effects and that was a stocked reef tank

5 hours I would say no problem as long as temp stayed OK. I would look into a way to do a powe rhead instead of just an air pump ideally. That way you get both flow and oxygen.

You can keep everything on if you rent a generator. You can even buy a generator from home depot and then return it later. They never ask questions.
