I am having a really hard time with the suction cups on my powerheads. I replaced the tiny ones that came with the MaxiJets with larger ones and they work fine for awhile but inevitably I will come home to a tank with sand everywhere due to suction cup failures  . As much time and effort that we put into these tanks to make them look great it is frustrating for a little piece of plastic to wreak havoc on it. Does anyone have ideas or other methods for attaching powerheads more securely?

    Thanks!

Some people superglue their powerheads to magnets. Then they put another magnet on the outside of the glass. Other people make plastic hangers and hang from the edge of the glass rather than using suction cups.

+2 I have seen these mods and they appear to work very well.

I haven't gone with a mod yet, but i occassionaly try to revive my suction cups...
I drop them into a cup of very hot water to soften up the plastic and let it return to a more cup-like shape and then drop them in ice water to help them keep their shape. It's not perfect, but it helps...

Good call Otty! I picked up a couple of these yesterday, installed them in a matter of minutes and am loving them. They are a little pricey but worth it just have the piece of mind that when I open my basement door I never again going to see a sand storm going on in my tank ;D ;D ;D !

I did but the hangers don't work with my canopy. Also, they don't allow you to place the powerhead lower in the tank which I like to do with at least one of them.

the LFS I went to had some kind of plastic hanger rigged up I might have to check em out and get back to you in but so far the magnets may be the best way to go.

Cool, I'm sure it would useful to someone on this board if you did since it seems like a common problem. I went ahead and sucked it up and bought the magnets though so I'm in good shape now (at least with the powerheads)!
Now to deal with the aiptasia  ............
