The electric is going to be shutoff in our home tomorrow from 8-12. I have a 55 gal. reef tank with mainly softies and LPS no sps, Do you think I need to do anything or will everything be alright with power out for 4 hours?

    thanks

4 hours should not be a problem if you are not in a cold or hot climate.
You may want to oxygenate your water really well before the power goes out. Make sure you skimmer is working at it's best and point a power head toward the surface of the water to generate extra surface agitation.

If you are really worried, you can pick up a battery powered live bait aerator from Wal-mart for about $10 to add bubbles to the tank.

I think I will get the airrator just for safe keeping. I am in illinois tomorrow is supposed to be a little chilly like 54 high tomorrow, but I dont think the house will chill down in the 4 hours that fast. I will make sure the skimmer is running good tonight. I run it 24/7 anyway so thanks for the advice.

Should be fine without them for 4 hours. If you have any reactors be careful that they don't dump excess stuff into your tank when they power back on. For example a calcium reactor sitting for 4 hours may dump too much calcium back into the tank when power is returned. Same for bio-pellet reactor or calk reactor.

I dont run any of those. How long would be too long do you think for a tank to sit without power?
