60 Gallon Reef tank, been up and running for about 5 months
Lots of corals, and about 8 fish.

It's like 70 here, so I'm thinking the temp shouldn't drop too much, but should I do anything else?
Like create oxygen with a straw or pouring water in and out?

Obv no backup battery or generator...

    Thanks

battery powered air pumps would be usefull just in case

if its a long power out, removing a bucket of water every so often and then pouring it back in, can help with oxygen content and the water movement created may also be appreciated by many inhabitants

do you have gas for cooking ? as if temp does seem to drop, heating up some tap water and putting into sealed plastic bottles and floating them can help maintain temp

Good idea on the gas and water bags... I like that.
But if it's only out a few hours I shouldnt have a lot to worry about right?

The bacteria isn't going to diminish or anything, causing the fish problems?

    right

Ive experienced power outs between 6 and 8 hours
I did run a battery powered air pump but other than that no issues

Alright, 30 hours makes me feel a little better. It SHOULDNT be even 3-4 hours.
Just some winds and rain came through.

But weird thing is it's gone off like 2 hours after the storm passed. So I'm thinking the power company is messing with stuff.

the problem with p/o's is that they stress you (the home owner) more then your critters. I bought a generator because we can go 7 to 10 days w/o power- it has happened, so I need it, plus I have older folks that live near me, I have a 10k gen. so that my neighbors can atleast have some heat and tv service. we get really bad ice storms here, and I wont worry if the gen. is running.

I'm glad you're alright. It really wasn't that bad here in North County. One of my friends lives real close to the airport (which is really mangled). Her neighbor's tree fell over but didn't hit her house. Her aquarium was doing fine.

Both Seascapes and Marine Solutions sell battery powered air pumps. I personally like the Penn Plax B-11 because it plugs into the wall and turns on automatically if it determines that the power has gone out. Both have the model B-10 which is cheaper but you have to manually turn it on.
