There was an accident of some kind near our street that got our power shut off. It's gonna be at least a good two hours before we get power back.

Luckily only some hermits are in the tank. The water got cold fast and I don't have a temperature reading as that was on the controller. We put two pizza boxes over the tank for insulation with a wool blanket on top.

I'm typing this from my phone...wish me luck. It's dark in here.

That seems pretty bad...Good Luck! Do you at least have an emergency pump to keep flow?

When you look out the back window from the second floor you cant see any houses with lights on. We live in the middle of town.

Nope. No pump. No battery backups. No APC. I had my skimmer and 3 koralia 425s. Now nothing. I really need to get some kind of backup unit.

you can use an airline hose and (I know, sounds funny) blow air into the tank a couple times an hour We purchased a battery power back up pump simply for this case. I know when a tornado touched down on New Years eve, it blew out the power at one of the LFS and they were blowing into the tanks to try to keep them going until generators got there

Good luck, stay warm. Maybe try to put some towels over the tank also?

It sure didnt reach 70. It was in the mid 40s this morning. Lower 40s this afternoon with rain showers for a while.
