Hey everyone quick question. The power has been out at my house since about 2:45pm EST darn snow storm in October!! Anyway I have two MP40s with the battery back up so they are providing current to the tank. My question is that the temp has dropped from about 79.8 down to about 77.5. At what point should I start to worry about temp.. I have a motorbike that I can fire up the generator on just trying to figure out the point that becomes a must..

    Any help would be great..

    Thanks!

I'd start worrying soon. I wouldnt let it drop below 76/77. 77 is like the low end of the normal temperature for a tropical tank.

My tank dropped from 78 to 59 during a snow storm, when i got home (i'm a snow plow operator lol) everything looked terrible i used space heaters and a car battery to get my tank flowing and heated and everything survived. Including a lot of SPS. all my inverts and fish. I estimate it was out for 4 or 5 hours.
but if you can keep everything heated and flowing now you might want to get everything ready so you have no snags when you DO start to panic.

Glad to hear it's back on and everything's ok. FTR, falling temps aren't as critical as when they're rising, but I wouldn't purposely allow them to drop more than 5 or 6 degrees if I have the means to prevent it. Although everything would most likely survive, it can get quite stressful.

Would be wise you invest in a small generator if possible.
