You'd have to get a high powered one which runs sround $150. You can get a small generator for another $100 or so.

I have a generator that lasts 8 hours...but usually we lose power when its hot and there isnt much I can do to cool the tank. Cooler power outages are a bit easier since you can power a heater ><

    How to figure current needs...

All battery back ups state the wattage and volt amp specs on the box. Use this page provided to figure a rough estimate of your total watts used by your equiptment. These are usually printed somewhere on the pump or other items. The UPS batterys give there times by watt usages, very simple to figure.

Although this would help, it would only be maybe with the really expensive; battery back ups last you only a few hours...heaters take up most of the wattage, along with the lights:(

    Just my thoughts...

    Hi,
I had a bad problem pre saltwater after a storm here in Va , we lost power for about 10 days, it was very warm and I found a good generator it was 500 bucks. It uses alot of that gasoline, and if you have freezer and refers you need to run extension to each item, the power demands of each unit can and will heat up the extension cords, I ran four cords each has its own powerstrip for smaller items.
I found that it was best to bring up one refer at a time and let them start to coast a bit then bring up another otherwise the inital demand was over the limits of a 5600K unit.
Those generators can only handle so many things and when you start a compressor be it refer , freezer, a/c there's a big demand and then after a few mins it coast.
Finally I pulled all the hoods off my freshwater tanks, but forgot that the large marine land canisters had aerobic bacteria and fish waste in them after about 24 hours it went bad or anerobic probably even had ammonia and other nasties in them, when I finally found a generator I powered up the refers , radio, and then ran a strip to them and when I started the canisters the fish started to look sick by the time I figured out what happend I had lost several large fish that I had for around 4 years. Ouch many others were damaged goods and died off over the next several months, Once I rinsed the canister out and allowed them to run it cleared the ammonia/ nitrates real fast.:-/
In Loving memory of the fish I lost after the storm..
