Hmm... Hydrogen peroxide: H2O2 ... Well for sure it will generate oxygen, but in its most dangerous and toxic form -> free radicals! You should not do that! The same applies in the case of ozone! The biochemical effect on water is simply oxidation of all reduced compounds like ammonia, nitrites etc... However, high concentrations of oxygen radicals are the main cause of so-called oxygen accelerated stress and aging. This is why in all these fancy cosmetic commercials fo ladies they creams contain all sorts of anti-aging/anti-free-radical compounds! I think an old school air-pump is the best solution! Running a tank without skimmer and light generates enough stress in the tank!

well it has been a couple days since power came back and i think the stress of all that happened finally came to pass. The blue angel is died 2 days ago and my hippo was covered in white spots 2 days ago. yesturday the hippo was MIA (may be hiding or not). The other inhabitants seem to be ok we will see.

gonna test all my levels after work tonight and see where is sit.

I was just without power for about 26 hrs I am in New Jersey and we were getting the remnants of the storm you got hit with in Ohio. I have been running my house on my generator. I turned off my MH lights and my skimmer (trying to save on the wattage) I just had my heater, my sump and my powerheads running. The tank looks OK today my house cooled off a little so my temp had gotten down to around 74 degrees but I thing everyone looks good so far. Today all of my equipment is up and running so we'll see if there are any effects. Good luck, sorry to hear about your loss

Sorry for your loss!! I have been concerned about this also, I do have access to a generator but it is a loud, old one and I don't think my neighbors would appreciate it running outside all night long!!! Better that than nothing, they might just have to get over it if I have to use it!!

Karma for the misfortune, living in the midwest I think we need to have a plan of action in place for such occurances!

Heck with neighbors...my fish would take precedence anytime.

Keep that generator handy! (and in good running order so it is there when you need it. Start and run for at least 1/2 hour each month. Keep some "Stabil" nearby) :-/

I agree, they would get over it!! It is a work generator that I could use anytime, we use it all the time so it stays in good working order and if it does need work I get paid to fix it up!! Pretty sweet deal!!

Hey Sean, good idea about the A/C inverter and the marine battery.. I had a power outage about a month ago, lucky for me I had a A/C inverter too. But, it was too late at night, and I couldn't find a battery. I ended up hooking the inverter to one of my cars, and running an extension cord to my room. My little 400 watt inverter ran my main pump, my skimmer and a small powerhead I placed in the display. I'm not sure how long it would have lasted before the battery died, so I ran the car for 30mins every hour for 6 hours. It work great, and had no losses..
