I whould take my fish out and put them in a big pot and keep taking them on and off of my wood stove to regulate the temperature. If you leave it on long enough you don't even need an air stone... ;-) I'M KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!! :trampolin

I'd actually go out and fire up the Geni in my motorhome and plug in to that. My guess is that's where me and my family would be hanging out for heat too!!

I run a Noma 1800 watt backup unit. It runs my mag 18 return pump and the heater for around 3 hours. If I just ran a couple of the koralia 4s which eat up less then 10 watts each I figure I would be alright for a long time. One thing for people with backup units, make sure to try them out. I had a APC 550 unit hooked up to my Mag and when the power went out the backup would not turn on and would list error. I then tried the backup hooked up to one of my Koralias and the same thing would happen. I ended up calling APC and they said the problem was the initial draw from the pump starting up was to powerful. So always a good idea to make sure your backup unit is in working form.

My bigger concerns is if it happens when I'm not home and am not aware it happened.. I wich these fancy tank monitors had the ability to get you an aleart even if there was no power. At least then you could come rushing home..

I had a 1200VA UPC and that lasted 15 mins when the power went out. I would suggest anyone using a UPC to unplug it and run it off battery to get an idea how long it will last, then unplug the unnecessary pumps to get more run time out of it.
FWIW, my backup had my Mag7 (skimmer), Rio 3500 (return), Seio850, Seio620 and MJ1200 (all circulation) connected to it.

Hate messing with extension cords so I got one of these. Want it to be automatic, because you can't start a generator if your not home.
