    Ok fellow 3reef reefers...
I've been having power outtage problems within the last month...
this is giving me problems through my filtration...
    mainly the skimmer...
I'm running a 160 swc cone and I guess..when the all my water drains into my sump the skimmer is almost fully submirsed in the 2nd baffle where it's placed...
What I've not put though in is installing check valves in my to 2 return spouts so when there is a power outtage the water does not flush into the sump but also keeps my water level at a more safer point...
as I've been thinking though to also benifit my livestock and keep my system going...
I've been doing some reading on battery back up devices...
I'm more looking and going with a cyberpower system...
what what I need to know is what cords should I have in the back up...
I know the return and skimmer is a must but should I plug in my heater and koralia's....
or should I plug in my pump that tumbles my reactor containg the skimmer...
I guess lighting shouldn't be too much of a big deal...
So has anyone have a ups/battery back up unit and can you reply on what you think of this investment...

I would do the heater and Koralias. Circulation and heat is more important than filtration during a power outage.

eliminate dead spots and wicked temp swings wreak havoc on everything in the system i found that out last mont once it got cold here in michigan i forgot to plug the heater back in

No, just the heater and powerheads. If you run the return and skimmer, your UPS will probably last ~15 minutes.

Agreed, return pump and skimmer will drain the back up battery in no time.

Glad to be back on the west coast where weather doesn't have such an effect on power outages etc. I used to get them all the time in Pittsburgh.

I had the tank running on a generator for a few days on more than 1 occasion.

It's not reeeally meant to be a source of power.... it's to avoid interruptions in power if the power flicks or during transition to a backup generater.

We use them on critical equipment in the ICU. You don't want a heart/lung bypass machine to shut down for a millisecond! (Except while trying to install these, the power went and the UPS came on and then went out.... the machine was too much for the UPS even though it was massive. Not a good night for anyone involved).

we'll I ended up picking up a APC unit at costco it tells me my max with my swc atman pump and catalina 1800 CA return...
I'll be ok for 45min...this should give me enough time for my power to kick back into effect...

Here is a picture of my filtration...
