Power strip that doesn't turn back on after poweroutage?

    Does something like that exist?

My thought is to have my return pump plugged into it in the event that a power outage happens and my U-tube loses siphon. This way, when the power comes back on, the pump won't pump water onto my floor. I will obviously have to manually rest the power to restart the pump, but I would rather deal with that than a mess of water on my hardwood floor.

It would be easier to put an overflow float sensor on tank that would shut down the pump.

Where are those sold. Does the pump plug into it?

I think I may place my return on a stand so that if I do lose siphon, there is very little water pumping into the display.

I'm not sure exactly how it works as I have an apex controller. But I'm sure it can be searched or pm Todd Sails. I know he has all that hooked up on his tank. FYI, the search area here can answer almost any question you have. I often think of stupid crap just to see its been asked. Very rarely I gotta go outta the forum to find an answer. Lol

You should probably look into getting an overflow box that will start up its siphon fine after the power goes out. That way if you are on vacation, you won't have a die off from a quick power loss.

Yeah guy, the best answer is to set up the overflow correctly so it will NOT lose siphon.

I was very skeptical about using one but I'm happy with mine.
    (will drill next time tho)

I shut it off every day to feed and it never loses siphon.
The size and depth of the in-tank box and external box, along with the diameter and LENGTH of your U tube all sort of work together.

If you buy an off the shelf one like an eshopps or something, it will work fine.

Get a pump with enough flow to keep the bubbles moving thru the u-tube fast so they don't build up. You will have lots of bubbles until everything develops a slime coat and afterward there will still be some.

I check mine once a day before work to make sure no bubbles or snails are working there way in. Works like a charm

A proper u tube set up will NOT lose siphon. My tank is on the 3rd floor of my condo so believe me, I was nervous at first too.

I didn't want to use the foam piece on the drain so I also made a hofer gurgle buster to tune down the noise a bit. And depending on the size and number of the holes you drill, you can keep critters (ie, larger snails that some how may miraculously make it that far) from going down the sump drain.

Well I am setting it up as intended. There is still that chance that the unexpected happens, however. That's what I want to protect against.

    Yeah, I hear ya.

    Todd Sails uses this:
emergency high water shutoff switch with alarm

    His thread

If you google water bug alarms and shut-offs and whatnot you'll come up with a bunch of stuff.

If you mount the one he uses just right you can prevent water from hitting the floor, which is really awesome. A little pricy, but worth it.
