Usually every month with an old tooth brush. Do I do it religously every month? If I told you yes, I would be lying to you my friend. Luna

a bucket, 30 cents worth of white vinegar, and an hour and a half soak.

I don't scrub them at all.

+1 I also plug the powerhead in and let it run for 1/2 hour or so while it's soaking.

The vinegar and a bowl works for me and if you are in a rush use lime away or a tile cleaner and concrete cleaner they will clean it in 5 to 10 Min's

Actually, I do this too. I shouldn't have left that out.

FOOTNOTE: For coralline algae lovers, this is not very nice to coralline algae. I don't care because coralline algae is not very nice to powerheads. I just wanted to let you know this upfront so no one gets upset that all of the coralline on their powerheads is now dead

    How often do you clean...[IMG]

Will add to my cleaning regime which I do every other week, or is that more often then needed? :-/

Wow you all are good. I clean mine when they quit running... about every 6 months. The build up on the ceramic rods and magnets is impressive. I use white vingar to soak the rotating elements and scrape the ceramic rods, if I can get them apart, if not I just install a new impeller (I keep a spare on hand for 2 of the 3types of power heads that I have).

I will note, that the Maxi Jet 1200 requires the least amount of maintenance on my part to keep running and that my koralias require the most.
