Okay, so I have a 55g tank that I am slowly setting up before buying any fish or corals for it. I have done some research and seen that the Hydor Koralia powerheads are highly recommended. Is a Hydor Koralia Evolution 550 a good choice for my tank and what is a good price for one of these?

I run 2 1050gph on my 55 gal on a wavemaker and my tank is doing awesome! I recommend treating poweheads like you would a skimmer or other pump and go +1 or 1 size larger as they tend to over rate the flow (IMO). I have had 0 issues with my powerheads since I started my tank. I also run a nano on my 29 gallon tank with good results as well.

I caught mine on sale on Amazon, I would say $25 is a good price for the 550gph.

So do you think I should even bother getting the 550 or should I just go bigger?

Definitly go bigger. I thought the same and bought a koralia 750 Evo and its definitly not enough. I'm going to get a 1050 and try the smartwave controler in the future. I also have a 55G. I also have an older Koralia 850 and that is adequate for one side. Just my .02

i have a 55g with 2 hydor 750's in the rear corners facing the middle, and i think its just about right! I have a decent amount of high to moderate flow with just a few low flow areas! 2 1050's may push it, but you could probably angle them to be ok!

So then I probably shouldn't consider these two 1300gph wave makers I just found? lol

i've heard for lps you're gonna want 25X flow of the tank volume and sps 30-35X tank volume! It also depends on the type of corals and pumps though! I think my 2 750's are pretty close to right!
