    Hi,

My husband posts on this board and says you guys are very helpful.

Anyway, we recently got an aquarium and are buying a thing here and there slowly. For Father's Day, I want to get him something for his new hobby, and he's been talking about needing a powerhead and lights. I've already purchased T-5 lights (he had it bookmarked on the computer so I Know exactly what he wants) but have no idea what kind of powerhead he needs.

Can someone please stir me in the right direction? We have a 45 gallon aquarium, a lot of live rock, 2 orange clown fish, 1 blue tang, 1 yellow tang. He has a refigum on the back of the aquarium and a skimmer.

I apologize if this posts sounds absolutely stupid, but I honestly am clueless in this field but would really like to make him a nice gift).

    TIA

I would suggest two Koralia Evolution (750gph each) for his tank. Very nice powerheads, great design & circulation: Koralia Evolution - 750 - Powerheads - Powerheads at BigalsOnline=

I saw 45g tank and then 1 blue tang & 1 yellow tang, uh oh, the tang police are coming :). Well I know you're his wife, but try to mention that he shouldn't have any tangs in a tank that small. 2 is waaaay too much even if they're small. Tangs need lots of swimming room and will grow large very fast and become very aggressive unless housed in a very large tank. I'd say 1 tang in a 90g is somewhat adequate, 2 would need a 125g+.

I had a blue hippo in my 55g and it started small, ate like a pig and grew fast. As it grew it became more and more aggressive to the other fish. I got rid of him and now understand why so many say they need much larger systems.

I second the Koralia Evos. Excellent line of powerheads. I have two of the previous models and love them. Never had a problem with them.

i had a Koralia power head and my anemone got into it. so i started useing seio power heads they have a shroud around them the anemone couldnt get into it now. i used the bigger model of power heads, the new Seio P530 Prop Pump/Powerhead come with magnet mounts and work great i much more perfer the to the koralias you can find them on marine depot . if you go with the koralia power heads chosse the nano sizes probley the smallest ones.

dont you think 2 750gph powerheads is a little to much for a 45 gallon tank.? i could see maybe if it was a sps coral tank but thats a lot of flow for a 45

I have a 850 and a 1050 on my 46 bow and I still have a couple dead spots. 750 and 750 is fine for that tank.
