I am in the cycling process of my 150 gallon, and am thinking down the road for better water flow in the tank for corals, etc... The tank is 72X18X29, so long deep and narrow, and has two megaflows that are on the back wall of the tank about 8-12 inches from either side. The sump has two rio 2100 pumps rated at around 700 gph, one for each megaflow. The rock work extends the length of the tank, about 200 lbs, and is off the back wall. Should be good water flow around everything.

    My Question:

Thinking about getting two Koralia magnum powerheads (one for each end of tank) for water flow, but can't decide what size. I plan on eventually adding a wavemaker, so that I will have good random movement. I am planning on a mix of soft and lps corals eventually. What would be the best size of Magnum to get for this set up?
    5 1650 gph
    6 2200 gph
    7 2700 gph
    8 3250 gph
Here is a pic of my tank as it sits now.

    Thanks for any help.

    nice looking tank hughey

softy dominated tank - 150 gallons
with 1400 gph already in play from returns? is that correct?

40 - 50 x tank turnover should be adequate in a softy tank IME

    150 X 40 - 6000 GPH - 1400 means 4600 required

    2 x K6s could do it or 1 K6 and a K7 - maybe even 2 x K7s
I dont think even in a softie tank that would be to much flow, due to the nice wide spread these units put out.

that would give you 4 sources of water movement in a 6ft tank (when combined with the 2 returns) - which is pretty good IMO

    Steve,
thanks for the info. That's pretty much what I had gathered from doing a search, but wanted a second opinion. That was a crap pic of the tank, but you get the idea anyway. I hope to have some time this weekend to spend taking some photos with something other than my phone.

    Cheers
