I have a powerhead and have an anemone and a greek goddess slug. I took part of freshwater filtration system apart and covered the intake on the powerhead to make it safer for my animals. Do wavemakers pose the same threat or should I upgrade to a wavemaker and if so what size would be good for a small 55 galon.

Wavemakers are simply control units for powerheads... You will still have powerheads in the tank

I harp about dead fish pretty often but there's only so much you can do. If the fish ends up in the powerhead it happens. Real reefs aren't 100% safe either.

If you put a wavemake in then if a fish gets stuck to the intake it will be able to swim off during the off cycle of the PH.

I use the Koralia powerheads for my 55 gallon and just a couple days ago my Bubble Tip Anenome got sucked up and obliterated my aquarium. Killed my baby naso tang and i had to do major water changes to clean the system. Its part of the hobby. survival of the fittest right?
