I am currently in the process of buying the equipment for my tank, and I am trying to decide what kind of powerhead to get for it. I am thinking about the koralias, mostly because I can't afford a vortech. Does anybody have experience using these in this size of tank? I am debating between the evolution and nano series of the tanks, with the 550 or 750 pump in the evolution series or the 425 in the nano line. Thanks!

    I used 1x 750 and 1x425 and was happy until I upgraded to MP10s

Did you have them running at the same time in the tank?

I would go with Tunze Nanostream over Hydor. Better quality, quieter, longer life. The 6025 with the new titanium shaft moves about 800 gph and can be found just over $50. Or you can get a single 6045 which is adjustable up to 1200 gph for under $100.

So follow up question, should I go with one powerful powerhead or two smaller ones? I am thinking about putting one of these Wavemakers: Hydor FLO Rotating Deflector Wavemaker on the return nozzle on my tank, but I know I need more flow than the standard outlet. I was originally going to do two smaller ones on each side of the tank, but would one larger one do the trick?

Recommended flow on that is only 80-310gph.

1 vs 2 powerheads depends a lot on your rockscape. If you don't have a ton of rock in your tank, I'd go with one larger powerhead. If you have a lot of rock and need 2 powerheads at different angles to create flow throughout yoru tank, go with 2.

If I were you, I would start with a single 6045 because it's adjustable and a truly excellent powerhead. I would then spend $10 on the housing/nozzle from a 6095 to get the awesome wide flow.

Depending on how that does in your tank, you can always supplement with another 6015 or 6025 down the road.

My tank has a built in overflow, and I was going to attach it to the outlet that is fed by the return pump, which i think is only 250 gph. the tunze plan would probably work, and it's always nice to have more flow available. Where do you find the housings for the 6095? Ive been checking marine depot and brs, havent seen them. Marine depot is actually the only one that has the 6095.

also, are the tunze ones compatible with the plug and play wave makers? I know the koralias don't work with the jbj wave maker, but do the tunze? I was thinking about using the hydor wavemaker too.

And to make this even more difficult has anyone used the sicce power heads? My LFS is in the process of phasing out their koralias for the sicces, and they seem to be about the same price point as the tunze ones.

In my JBJ 28 nano I have (2) Koralia 450s that run off of my Reef Angel (built in wavemaker) to go along with the (2) stock return pumps (rated at 265 GPH). I only have a couple SPS so far (Green Slimer Acro, Tyree Undata and another Montipora), along with a few LPS and so far everything seems to like the flow. Eventually I may do (1) MP-10 once I get more into SPS.
