powerheads

    I am looking for a inexpensive replacement for my Rio 1700 which started smoking this morning.......would a 1200 maxi jet be suitable for my 60 gal tank I found one on ebay for $16.00 plus shipping sounds good to me and would my tank be ok till it can get here........i have mostly fish but i do have a xenia and couple mushrooms

    Maxi jet is a good choice, however with that size tank I would add atleast one more powerhead, to increase water flow.
    Water flow is beneficial other than for water movement for corals and fish. It carries detritus and other impurities and helps to suspend the "bad stuff" in the water column longer for the protein skimmer to remove. It also helps with oxygen, supplement and food transport!
    You should be ok for the time you aren't running a powerhead, though the Xenia requires atleast a moderate water flow.
