I've run a dehumidifier for almost 5 years now, as the AC unit in my place is borderline undersized, and here in FL, the humidity outside is typically in the 80's or 90's. Without the unit, my indoor humidity is 80% or higher.

As far as using the product water for anything: Absolutely not! When the unit is brand new, there's not much difference between the water it draws, and pure, distilled water. However as the unit ages, the coils become dusty, the reservior that you empty becomes covered in mold, and the unit produces water that is certainly unsanitary for consumption, and at the very least, unclean.

Just dump it down a sink or bathtub.

So how noisy is your dehumidifier compared to your chiller? Same?

Mine runs for the whole house, which is just barely over 800 sq feet. I live in Wisconsin, so I would say we have a fairly mild climate usually. I just got the 125 put in in my living room this summer, and it wasn't until we closed the windows for winter that we started having the moisture problems.

The compressor isn't always on, but the fan for my unit is. (Actually haven't had to use my furnace much this year due to heat from the tank and now the dehumidifier.)

You talkin' to me? I don't see nobody else so you must be talkin' to me. .

    OK, exit Robert DiNiro.

My dehumidifier is noisier than a jackhammer on Sunday morning. My chiller is pretty quiet. I'm not sure why the dehugh is so annoying, but it vibrates while it hums.

The dehumidifier is in a remote bedroom, so we don't hear it, but when I'm near it, I want to hit it with a baseball bat. It works, though--

    :)

Great..... what brand is it? Lowe's has a Frigidaire 25 pint I'm thinking of ordering. Sump covers are out of the question, but I could cover it with vis queen. sort of stupid, but it would cut down on the evaporation. Cheaper than a $170 dollar noise maker.

    It's an LG. It's a 25 pint model if I'm not mistaken.

Wow, that's not comforting. LG isn't half bad.

Agreed. I think LG makes good some good stuff. In their defense, I'd be willing to bet that a big factor in the unit's noise production is lack of cleaning on my part. It wasn't so noisy when it was brand new, and has developed noise over the years. I should really take it apart and clean off the coils and fan.

I just picked up a Frigidaire dehumidifier today at Lowe's. I got the 25 pint per day model as my apartment isn't very large, this one should hopefully do the trick for me.

My mold problem was much worse than I thought. I have black mold growing around all my windows, and is especially thick at the top of each window. I suspect this is why I have had allergy symptoms for the last few weeks. I've cleaned the mold up, sprayed with Lysol mold / mildew killing spray, and just powered on my dehumidifier. Hopefully this solves my problem.

Good luck to you man. Get something before the problem worsens.
