    Hey everyone,

I'm thinking im ok, but i just lost power due to winds knocking down a bunch of lines. Im in week 2 of my cycle so I don't think I have to worry too much. Am I ok here as long as it doesn't become too long of an outage?

    Signed,
Newbie working on his 1st tank

    Thanks all!

Yeah, It's a 65 gallon setup and when the power went out it was at 80.5 degrees. It should hold on for a while I would think!

    Thanks Ben!

This is where you start to consider the possibility of this happening when your tank is full of $$$ livestock. I strongly suggest looking into a battery backup, and or a generator.

As long as it's not out for too long, you should be okay now. if it goes over 6 hours, I would suggest adding some sort of flow/oxygen for the tank. Even if it's using a pitcher and just dipping and pouring back in.

You should be fine. no bioload and no life to support - the bacteria in there should be ok.

Keep an eye on your params if it is prolonged for more than a day

Thanks everyone, great advice. When I get home from work I will use the pitcher technique if the power is still out. Good idea about a backup battery, a great backup plan considering all the variables out there. I dont think a whole power line pole coming down will be a common occurence (1st time power has been out at my complex) but backup plans are good.

    Everyone gets a bump!!!

That actually happened to me a few years ago.. Except our power was out for a few days from a hurricane. Thank god for generators! You should be good for awhile though.

Got home from work and power was back! No harm done, I lost maybe 1/2 a degree. Just tested, Ammonia has buried the needle big time. Beyond green (8.0 ppm) mine is blue. Gotta love, thx again for all advice.

People often cycle temperate tanks by keeping them warm for a couple of weeks, then chilling them. The bacteria don't die when they get cold, they just grow (and process nutrients) slower. Fish and corals, on the other hand, don't like power outages so much...

Everyone should at least have one of those cheap battery operated air stones!
