Hi. My Precision Marine HOT-1 Skimmer arrived via UPS today! Happy happy! ;D

Just curious does anyone operate one of these on their reefs? It seems quite promising. :)

P.S. I would include photos of it if only I could find my USB port for my camera. :-[

The protein skimmer in question is a Precision Marine HOT (Hang On Tank). It's manufactured by Precision Marine Systems http://www.precisionmarine.com/.

I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SKIMMER ONLINE FOR TWO YEARS!!! It seems to have made a comeback in retail. ;D

The skimmer itself is made from very sturdy cast acrylic and PVC, it's also built with great craftsmanship. For such a tasks as skimming small aquariums with a max. capacity of 50 gallons, it looks to be the best thing on the market. I'll say it can easily out-perform the Tunze Nano for just a little more $ (mine was around $190). It's also a very adaptable skimmer accepting both Rio800 and Maxijet 1200 pumps.

I really need to download the pics.

I would use the MJ1200 over the Rio800 anyday. :)

It's much more impressive in person. The overall height is 25 inches. The reaction chamber is 3 inches wide (2.75 in. internal) and 19 in. height. the skimmer neck is about 6 in. (including the part within the collection cup --- which is 1 1/4 in. dia.). The cup looks to hold at least 250mL of skimmate (the model I chose wasn't installed with a drain --- personal choice).
The inlet is 1/2 inch and the outlet is 3/4 in.. I'll be installing a 'Loc-Line' flexible fitting to the outlet into the aquarium.

I hope there isn't anything Freudian about this subject. :-/

Interesting Note: My PM HOT-1 came with a union-style disconnect which unthreads to separate the skimmer neck and cup from the reaction chamber. It's pretty cool and easy to operate. 8)
