Hey everyone, setting up my colleges 150 tall tank over the weekend, and am researching types of fish to introduce. They want a predator tank, I'm thinking because this tank is rediculously tall I'm going to look for fish that typically fit in a 50/40 breeder. This will make it easier for me to maintanance the tank, and i won't have to worry about the fish not having enough space length/width wise.
Anyone have any suggestions? This is my first time with saltwater, I've done a ton of research, have all the equipment, but I don't know many saltwater fish. Would like to avoid the stereotypical lionfish setup, and get something a little more unique. Was looking at getting a cuttlefish, but it seemed like way too much work to feed live food for the 1st two weeks, not to mention out of my budget.
Was also considering pufferfish, but I'm not sure how many snails I'm going to need to keep it's beak trimmed down, and I'd like something a bit more aggressive(I know puffers can be aggressive).
Have kept many freshwater fish, and have been researching saltwater like crazy, so even if the fish is sensitive, I'd like to hear the suggestion. Planning on getting a refugium setup once the tank has cycled, and will have plenty of water volume.

if your looking for fish for a 40/50 breeder footprint your going to be very limited. triggers, wrasses, eels, and groupers will all be to big. best fish imo for that size would be a scorpian/lion fish. im doig a 40 breeder scorpian/lion fish tank in a few months this is my stocking list.

    Cockatoo Waspfish (Ablabys taenianotus)
    Leaf fish (Taenianotus triacanthus)
Pair Red fin Waspfish (Paracentropogon rubripinnis)
    Fu Manchu Lionfish (Dendrochirus biocellatus)
Hawaiian Lionfish (Dendrochirus barberi) or Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)

you can probaly get both lions in a tank that big.

Why not do just a FOWLR? Something like
    Harlequin Tusk
    a Tang(s)
    a Trigger
    a Grouper you like
    an Eel you like

I agree except for the grouper(unless it's some small kind)

It's gonna be a fowlr, I thought most eel's would need the length instead of the height. I honestly haven't checked out their requirements yet, could I keep one in this tank?
I need to go out and measure the tank length, I just keep forgetting my measuring tape when i go to class.
Armison: Really liking that cockatoo waspfish look from google images, might have to start looking up their care requirements.
Strike that, I liked both the waspfish you listed, may just give in and get a lionfish if all fu manchu lionfish really look like the google images.
    anymore ideas are greatly appreciated.

maybe a marine betta, a dwarf lion (fu mans are harder to wean onto frozens.) and a dragon wrasse?

Eels usually just need lots of rock work.
