It's really bothering me that a community that is so patient and tolerant with each other is showing some less than open-minded tendencies.

 

Coming from a gay man (me), I am torn. On one hand, this person is really a woman giving birth. No big deal, right? The only catch is that she has had male parts attached and has been taking all the right hormones to become manly.

I definitely don't have a problem with it! If you are born as this or that and what to become that or this, then who am I to judge? *As I eyeball all the moronic judgmental Bible thumpers*

I guess the only issue I have is maybe this person is legally a man, but at the very core of his existence, he's a woman. So the title "Pregnant Man" is misleading, if you ask me. It would be different if he wasn't born a woman and didn't keep the parts.

"Pregnant Transgender Male" would be more accurate, IMO.

 

Agreed. But the only thing i worry is how the child will go about his/her life. I am 14, and trust me, kids will find ever little thing and make fun of you for it, just climb one step on the socia ladder.

 

I'm actually pretty pleased to not see more flamers on this one. From the POV of a Bay Area resident this has been getting a lot of negative press- and NOT only from the right-wing groups. I am reminded once again that even "minority" groups have their prejudices.

Intolerance and fanaticism of any kind is dangerous.

 

Well that's what we're working for in today's society: tolerance. I know kids are cruel, I remember many things said to me in elementary and middle school - none of them about being gay (hell I didn't even really know what gay meant until later). But as long as more and more kids of that child's generation are brought up knowing acceptance and understanding, then he or she won't have any more problems then the rest of us.

And if his or her parents raise him or her (do we know if the child is a boy or a girl?) correctly, then he or she will know how to deal with the narrow minds and be able to brush insensitive and uneducated idiotic comments right off his or her shoulder. Easier said than done, sure, but possible all the same.
