I have a friend that is sending me a Flame Angel via FedEx Overnight (arriving today) :-X I didn't know it was coming until I got his email this morning  I feel I need to do a fresh water dip brfore introducing it to my tank but also need to do the normal aclamation process with tank water and small water adds to the container with none of the shipped water getting in the tank. My problem :p is at what point can I do a fresh water dip? I don't have a hospital tank to hold him in. HELP!!

I would avoid the fresh water dip as it will only stress the fish even more. I would recommned doing a drip acclimation. I would get some flexible airline tubing and tie a loose knot in it. Start the siphon and then tighten the knot until you are only getting a few drops a second into the container with the angel.

Is this sick? If your friend runs a healthy tank and you trust them, then you most likely have nothing to worry about. Just remember that there will be ammonia in the bad the fish is in and that the PH has dropped due to lack of oxygen. Give the fish plenty of time to properly acclimate.

Actually I don't trust the tank conditions of my friends tank. He seems to have a lot of losses for no "explained" reason. Once the fish is in my tank it's nearly impossable to catch it for treatment and my tank has LR, an anemone, red band shrimp, and hermi crabs :( Tough to treat without a total tear-down.

What are you wanting to treat the fish for? There may be other options for you then taking the fish out of your tank.

ICH is going to be in most marine tanks. In most cases of ich that I have seen on here, keeping the fish stress free and healthy was the key for the fish to survive. If you worried about ich, I would get a QT set up before introducing the fish to your DT. I think it was Herbtana that I was reading something about the othere day. There are treatments out there that claim to be reef safe as well. The better treatments have copper in them, but the copper would most likely kill the angel anyways as they do not tolerate copper all to well.

I really don't know to much about fresh water dips though.

A freshwater dip won't rid the angel of ich, It will still be in his skin and gills. If you're that worried, you're only real option is to do a QT tank and keep him in there in hyposilinity, 1.009 for a 4-6 weeks!

I'd either do that, or just do a normal acclimation procedure. If you haven't QT's your previous fish, inverts, etc for 6-8 weeks or treated them, pretty good chance you have ich in your tank too.

Remember though, if you do the hyposalinity treatment to lower the salinity very gradually. You don't want to make drastic changes to the water chemistry either.

Thanks Cosmo, I was getting ready to PM you.

HMMmmmm!! Lots of good info here. Guess I'll scrap the fresh water dip idea and consider building a hospital tank, won't have time before this delivery, we're waaaaaaayyyyyy outside town :) Maybe I should get a cleaner wrasse to be the resident doc :)
