What is the best way to place your liverock in your tank, when you have a sand bed of 1-2"? Should the rock be placed directly on the glass then filled in with sand around it or should I place an eggcrate down on the glass, then place the rock on top of that?

I place my rock on sand bed this way there is a buffer between glass and rock

I put mine directly on the glass so it can't be knocked over by something tunneling under it.

I put mine on the sandbed directly however this was somewhat of a mistake, I think, because it didn't take long for everything to start shifting. Next time I'll push the rocks down to the glass.

im the same way. current tank, rock is on the sand bed. but next tank, the rock will be on the glass. if you are worried about the glass, which you shouldnt be, use the egg crate to glass and rock on crate and then sand around

Put in directly on the glass as it is probably tempered and will help later on if you get a golby because they like to dig.

So there's really no need to elevate LR above sand bed? Also when using PVC racks, should they be filled with sand, capped, or have holes drilled through them with possibly powerhead added to help prevent a problem?

I put it in the sand and shove it down with a twist till it hits bottom and backfill with sand.

I would cap and seal the PVC if possible. Ive heard stories of open PVC rackwork for rock turning into rot/nitrate heaven and what not. But not something I really have experience with.
I would actually recommend not using rackwork/securing it to terribly. Only because if your like me your going to want to change it about 5,000 times before you finally settle on something ;)
