Ok, in Wichita Kansas coral isn't cheap. Yea, I got free kenya trees from a club member in town, but if I go to the store its expensive. $50 for five mushrooms on a rock. 10 zoo heads for $25. baseball size leather for $48. Brains and LPS are $90+

On the other hand, my brother who lives in Sacramento gets killer frags for like $5-$10. He brought some up last christmas and everything he gets does great in our tank and is a steal compared to what we get here.

Today they had a sale in Sacramento, 10 frags for $75. They only ship free for $200 or more, so we had to pay $39 extra for shipping. So about $120 for 10 frags. So we are getting 3 zoas, 1 button, 4 lps, 1 mushroom, and 1 leather. All frags are generous when looking at the pictures, and my little brother picks them out well. Like the last time he got a mushroom frag for us it had 5 shrooms and some broke off, and multiplied, and multiplied and etc. Found out later they were a ricordia species that look more like mushrooms. I always wondered why they looked so cool.

I think we all can relate when it comes to coral prices.

coral prices are cheaper around importation centers, I would consider ordering online if I was you. I buy most of my coral online now.

I feel for ya. I first got into reef tanks when I lived in Tahoe, but now I'm a bit spoiled. I don't even know how many lfs I would have if I was willing to drive more than 20min. The net is a good way around it and you can get some great stuff from people on places like here. If I where you I would be selling on C-list, lots of us do it in the bay to the point that there is a bit of price competition. Some times I see some stuff around here that I really wish I frag out and get to people in places like your area.

    Ugh. LFS. Ugh. :p

Quality and established online vendors are where it's at the vast majority of the time, IMO.

Very interesting -- living in Ontario Canada I don't have much to choose from. Anyone no of an online store to purchase coral? For Canada

Where do you guys buy fish at online? The only company I've ordered from was reef2go and it wasn't that good. The pieces were small and didn't do well in the tank. And they want like $9 for a single red mushroom and $55 for a 2 inch kenya tree. Corals are still expensive even are other sites I've looked at. Either that or im just cheep.

Ohh, and I know reefs2go isn't the best place to get stuff from, but it was the first place we tried.

For coral, I've gotten from LiveAquaria and ReefEmpire, which were both great. LiveAquaria has a bit of a lighting issue (they used different-than-average lights to make corals pop), but ReefEmpire is nearly exactly the way they look. MSA is good too, and they have great customer service.

You could also try a local reef club. There should be once somewhere nearby.
