What do you mean by "maintain a good balance in my ammonia, nitrite.."? You want these to be 0. Are you having problems with ammonia and nitrite?

+1. You should not be looking into chemical dosing to control those. Prime will reduce those slightly in the case of an emergency, and is good as a tap water treatment, which is what I use it for. But as far as long term maintaining of your params, the tank needs to be able to control that on it's own. If it can't then something is wrong, in which case you need to look for other solutions.

i like this product i use it in all my fresh tanks for dechlorination(btw never uses rodi water in fresh tanks its bad for the animals if you don't have any mix to add elements like in salt), i wouldn't use it as a chemical filter because it will lower oxygen levels significantly, with the toxin emergency dose.

with the dechlorination dose, not the "emergency dose," it won't remove very much ammonia at all because it will be removing the ammonia created from the break down of chloramines(which is used now instead of chlorine, because chlorine evaporates chloramines do not, which is why aging water is no longer a effective way of dechlorinating).

sorry i deviated a bit but my answer is its better then nothing but not as good as water changes and proper husbandry.

well actually i just came off my nitrogen cycle like a week ago, and i did a 45% water change 3 days after that, and my ammonia and nitrite level are at 0 but my nitrate level is still at 40ppm, so i dont know if i should do another water change or if i should add every now and then Prime Seachem, because i heard its good at reducing nitrate levels and controling them also

you could try it, but i would probably buy some nitrate sponge(its like activated carbon) and use that.

I would not use prime for that. The drop will be small, and as stated, it will lower the available oxygen level, which potentially could be a worse situation the the nitrates.
What size tank do you have? What is the flow rate? How much rock? What kind of skimmer?

Not all city's use chloramine so its important to contact your water authority if your concerned about what they are using.

My city for example uses no chemicals.
