so you don't think any critters that may be left on the rock won't use this stuff??? I honestly don't know. I like to roll on the safe side tho. I've never really thought about using the water from my curing container.

I agree with J. Use the water until you get the last 2"-3" from the sand/bottom. Luna

Here is what I decided to do and my rationale. I am going to use the water down to near the bottom of the tank and avoid the grunge. However, it looks clear to the bottom. My reasoning is that this water is at equalibrium with the cured rock and has the right flavor of ingredients, plus it is probably loaded with bacteria. I do not plan on using live sand as I do not know where it may have come from and the bacteria (probably all good) might be in competition with the bacteria strain on my Fiji LR. I want to spread the Fiji bacteria throughout my tank to a point it is running smoothly. It seems that using this bacteria laden water would help do that more quickly, including the crushed coral sand (not live) I plan to use.

I know that bacteria is in the water as it is here at California beachs. I have friends who have gotten sick or infections from this bacteria which of course would be a total wipeout in the aquarium.

Does that make sense or am I missing something?

Oh you did not start anything , I was just passing on what I know from applying this to several hundred different systems nothing I assume or think I know . I also knew there would be NO3's in that 5 to 10 range also that just tells me the water is good to go. All I can say is I'd use the water. to mellow out the newer Raw water you will be adding and you will be far better off . I cut my first tooth one a small block 265 chevy :) My father was a ford man ran in what is now sprint cup then it was Grand Nationals . I took a old 50 Ford and punched that little 265 out 20 over did some porting and polishing and put a old plenum type fuel injection on it off of a totally blown up 1957 283 301 . she sounded like a hot tea kettle when I rolled through the BBQ drive in we used to hang out to get our runs lined up I kept a ford rear in her though :) I built the 454's 508's for our off shore team .

Thanks Tangster. Now just waiting for the tank. It should roll in Monday, Tuesday at the latest. We own Santa Barbara Bird Farm, Welcome to the Santa Barbara Bird Farm and distribute Hagen bird food. Being in the "pet trade" (we no longer breed our flock) we can get Fluval and the other Hagen aquatic brands. The tank is the new Osaka - might work, might not but I want to try it.

I know I would have regretted tossing out this good water.

I cut my teeth on a 283 that I put into a 48' ford Woodie. I hated the flat heads. When I got the 38' 13 years ago (which by the way originated in CT, had to deal with a lot of rust) I knew immediately that the flat head, 3 speed and the rest was gonna come out. It has an 8" rear end, all power, sway bars and discs - purrs on the freeway at 80+ 8)

I will post pics of the tank and an update on what, if anything happened with the water.

    Thanks to all,
    Harry

When I started my tank, (brand new system) I added newly purchased rocks directly to the tank, a week later, the sand, let them cure for several weeks, perhaps a month, and constantly checked the water. So far so good.
