So a colleague at work passed on his 'Aquarium Systems' skimmer today. He gave it to me because he has no more time for his tank etc etc. He did not have a pump for it but I told him I'd still take it without the pump because I have an extra powerhead at home. However, when I got home, I connected it to the powerhead and ran the air feed tube but no bubbles at all it just spouts out water. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? thanks;)

Is the air intake clean? Test it by blowing air through it. Also is the pump stong enough for the skimmer.

I checked the air intake, it is clean and I think that it's powerful enough for the skimmer. The skimmer specs says up to 100 gal and the pump is capable of pumping up to 400 gph. It's the 'Via Aqua 1300' pwoerhead. Is it possible that the skimmer is a venturi skimmer and I need to use a venturi pump?

Is the 'Aquarium Systems' skimmer a Seaclone?

I have no Idea... I wouldn't doubt it tho... He has alot of SeaClone stuff. The labeling on it just says, "Aquarium Systems; Manufacturer of Instant Ocean".

Could you post a picture it would help in helping you. AS only makes a few skimmers and none of them are very good but we can try to help you get the most out of it.

ya if the manufacturer is instant ocean im pretty sure it is a seaclone, if it is my pump was replace by a rio pump not sure which model but the output is around 260pg or something like that. it works but not have much luck to control the microbubles.
