He sort of is. :/ it's strange. I've heard of a brain reproducing this way, but I doubt that's what is happening.

my brain just has a little head build up and kinda seperate from the colony and just drop off in the sand bed..never seen one do this..but idk if it were mine i would move it to as little flow as possible and in a couple months may come back..you may have a chance to save it..but i honestly dont know what else..

An update. The brain left its skeleton. :( yet, after being blown around the tank for a few days, it has stuck to a rock. I still see it's feeder tentacles, and it's still eating. I found out the cause, too. It was due to very low alk, and ive been administering buffer on orders from my LFS. :) do you think there's still hope?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I wonder if you could provide some more information regarding the alk issue and the present problem with the brain coral ( possible a link or reference).

I have never seen a brain do this before and interested in how it turns out.

Thank you for the follow up and I hope you get a good outcome.

    TIA

Thank you. :) I don't have a record of the alk levels. But, I can tell you that I've never tested for it in the two years that the tank has been set up. I never had a problem with it before this month.

I'm hoping the outcome will be favorable. Whose seen an LPS without a skeleton? :p

Looks kind of like polyp bailout, surprised the heads didn't pop off of the frogspawn. Have you added more corals that use up more Ca recently?

I'm not sure. All I have in the tank are some small kenyas, gsp, green zoas, the frogspawn, acans, and the open brain. The mOst recently added being the acans.

    A few things I noticed.

    1. The brain already had an area of exposed skeleton before the edge peeled back.

    2. In the first picture, the flesh looks a little too opaque, and the algae seems to be quick to grow onto the skeleton. Both indicate too much light.

    3. There are a couple of areas on the skeleton that look pink. It's suspected in acans that that is an indication of a virus. Once an acan recedes with a pink skeleton, it needs to be fragged to save it.
