I am compiling a list of Problem, Cause, Solution involving problems that can occur in a marine tank. I was wondering if anyone had any Problem, Cause, Solutions that they could add to my list. Example: Problem - Emerald Crab is nipping at my corals Cause - Not enough algae in the tank for the Emerald Crab to eat Solution - Feed the Emerald Crab dried seaweed

Thats not a list,it would be a series of novels, lol.

The best advise I could give to cover the major things is to read, read and read.I've been tank keeping for more than 20 years both fresh and salt and reefing for over 5 and there is still things you can and will learn everyday as you go.

Edit-also,keep a journal,it can really help at times and is a great reference.

    Ok I'll play along.
Problem: Tank water temperature is higher than desired.
Cause: Room ambient temperature to high, and can not be lowered.
Solution: Aim a small fan to blow across water surface.

Problem: Not enough room for corals.
    Cause: Too many corals.
    Solution: Bigger tank.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Problem:
Lower or fluctuating pH below 7.8.

    1. Increase surface agitation.
    2. Make sure to measure pH same time with each testing.
    3. Consider refugium on reverse lighting cycle.
    4. Obtain levels for the big 3 Ca/alk/mag.
    5. Obtain initial Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrates levels, if new tank syndrome is in question.
    6. Consider tank location. (Basement, room that receives little ventilation.)
    7. Research administration of buffers such as Kalkawasser, or types of 2 parts.

    Large Populations of Bristle Worms.

    1. Available food reduction, cut back on feedings.
    2. Increase other members of the CUC like smaller hermits.
    3. Addition of certain Wrasses as a last measure.
    4. Addition of an Arrow crab, consider the inherent problems with this invert (adult size and aggression)

    Pyramids Snails.

    1. Manual removal at night.
    2. Remove clam and place in container of display water, use tooth brush to remove snails and eggs from the base and foot of clam and in between the scutes, repeat twice weekly as needed. Burp clam while returning to display.
    3. Place clam of appropriate size on pedestal made of PVC pipe to elevate it about the sand bed and check for presence of snails.
    4. Some Wrasses will eat Pyramids but this is hit and miss, Pyramids are nocturnal.
    5. Inspect larger snails like turbos for the presence Pyramids during infestations.

I am currently experiencing the same problem as som3reef3r, LOL

Problem - infestation of Aiptasia pest nems
Cause - ignored them for to long
Solution - Aptasia X - turn off all flow, and apply to as many as possible ( because if others sense danger they will release offspring and you end up in a worse situation than you started with)

    repeat as required
