Problems with a Reef Devil

    One last thing my parents are redoing their bedroom and will be moving into the room where the tank is the air intake is pretty loud can i put the skimmer on a timer or is there some other way to silance it.

    You can make a silencer for it. Two PVC caps (1" or so), a short piece of pipe, and some airline tubing. Drill a hole in the two caps just large enough for your airline tubing to go into. Slide the tubing from your skimmer in one cap, a short piece into the other cap. Then put the caps on the PVC pipe (about 4" long is plenty"). Make sure the airlines go to the other ends of the silencer so that the air has to go completely back through the silencer to get in/out of it. Make sure the ends aren't jammed against the cap on the other ends.

    Red would be the two caps.
    Blue would be the short piece of pipe.
    The black would be the airlines opposing one another.

    The air comes in one black line, leaves the other one. Some people put floss inside the silencer but I have never had to. And it doesn't really matter what size pipes/caps you use. I used 1" on the ones I made because it was the size fittings I had at hand.
