Well, I just came home from Petco with a Scooter blenny to add to my Biocube. I've had experience with blennies in the past such as lawnmower blennies and starry blennies. well what I didn't know was that the Scooter Blenny is a dragonet... I've had experience with mandarins in the past and all have passed because of lack of pods to feed on. Thats not the worst thing though. I asked to see it eat (Didn't know it ate pods at the time), and she said no, because they only feed them after the store closes... I then asked what they ate, and she said they fed them pellets and flakes... :( I bought him mainly because I thought I was saving him from a slow and painful death. Hopefully things work out.

Personally if they would not show me it eating if i asked i would have walked out right there, you can buy pods online or maybe even at your lfs you could give that a try, good luck!

Thanks! I was about to walk out. But when they told me what they were feeding it, I thought i'd save it. :( Poor thing. I mean, it's probably better that i'm the owner than them or some newb hobbyist. And If I do run out of pods, I have a 55g I can switch it to.

..its been debated many times...the laws...or lack there of..for fish, they can do whatever the want as far as the treatment of them...its sad but true...the big box stores throw out more than they sell..ime...BUT..if you have the inclination to be the savior of these poor creatures, my hat is off...I will not even go near the tanks in those type stores...it makes me sad. : ( Good luck...I don't believe the blenny is as fickle as the manderin....good husbandry, and you will have a wonderful fish. : ) good luck...keep us posted. : )

I went often to my local Petco and watched as some really nice Corals slowly died, even offered to buy some at reduced price before they tossed them in the garbage in hopes a few polyps may still be alive, there prefered to just toss them.

Petco IS shameful... at least there's one good thing. :) I threw in some flakes for my clown and YWG, and the Benny started to eat the tiny pieces. :D that was a shock.

    Hi Fisk

    sorry about your negative experience
as responsible reef keepers, we do need to ensure we know what we are doing when we are doing it
hopefully a valuable lesson for you, irrespective of whoever they are, if they cannot show you a fish feeding, then do not assume it is in fact eating

as you are new here, I think this would be a good time to advise you and anyone else reading of the sites official policy on what we call "flaming" threads

these are threads, where any number of people come along and give their negative stories about any given vendor , are not encouraged

whilst I do appreciate your motives and reasons for posting your story/ experience

I am going to close this thread ( just as we have closed many others just like it)

    Steve
