I was able to purchase a Profilux aquarium controller for what I would consider a steel.
I have several friends with them and a couple more with the RK Elite and really wanted to see what all the hype was about.
I had always thought "Great toy, but I have everything I need already" I must have had reefer envy because all I can say is WOW.
I'll fill you in on what I have for the Profilux
    the base unit of course
    1x 6plug digital power bar
    1x 4plug power bar
1x 2plus high amp power bar
    Temp probe
    PH probe
redox probe(haven't even looked at it)
    conductivity probe
    level sensor
2xLED sunrise/ Sun Set (OK so this is a toy)

    Lighting
So the unit is designed to accommodate dimmable T5 or MH ballasts and can control them to and infinite number of possibilities. None dimmable MH or T5s can be put on timers to be controlled on and off.
Sunset/sunrise can be programed to come on and increase or decrease in intensity as you see fit. It can also be programed through longitude and latitude to take into account the phases of the moon. Yes this is a Toy but a cool toy none the less. One final feature of the sunrise/sunset LEDs is the lightning storm. you can program up to 4 storms a day. This feature can scare the crap out of you if you don't realize right away what is going on. You could thing you have electrical arching happening in your tank. But needless to say it is cool and looks like real lightning.

    Pump
You can control all of your pumps via timers or you can adjust the flow through them(if pumps have this ability)
You can program kill buttons on them for feeding or other applications. this will stop the pump for an amount of time determined by you
    Power heads
you can control Tunze powerheads and the Profilux replaced the Tunze controller.
Other powerheads can be used in a wavemaker type fashion

    Temp probe
allows you to program fans, lights, chiller, heaters to all react at different temperatures to ensure a stable tank temp
    PH Probe
Allows control of CO2 or really any dosing system based on PH levels of either the tank or a reactor
    Conductivity
    Accurate SG reading
    redox
Can control ozone (sorry don't know a lot about this one)

-Allows you to log all probe activities and display these logs via a graph
    -Wi-Fi connection to your computer
    - e-mail notification if programed tolerances are exceeded
    - ability to perform water changes via many different programs
    - custom programs can be written published SDK available for free
    - Support has been very good via e-mail and through forums
I've really only scratched the surface of this unit and I've only had it running for about 4 days. But so far I'm in love.

These are complete packages then? I've always seen the neptunes and octopus, I think that these are the names.

Anyway I know that I will need one for the next tank I set up and sounds like you like this one. Do you know how it stacks up against the others?

More that I am reading the better this thing gets, pricier too!

I spent a lot of time trying to stay away from "x product is better than Y product" but I've also spent a lot of time looking at controllers. I was really exited about the Reef keeper elite and still think it's a great controller and it is the only other controller that come close to the Profilux. I think more and more dimmable ballast will come on the market and you will see more and more high end controller come out. I'm sure Neptune and Octopus are working on them but today I'd have to say the Profilux has the most flexible and expandable controller out there

Jason, do you know how a Profilux controller would work with CoralVue dimmable MH ballasts? As far as I know these are the only dimmable MH ballasts out so far but they only dim about 10% (as for reducing light shock from new bulbs). Would the Profilux turn these on and off for me or would I have to get additional timers as you seem to mention in your original post last year?

I Believe there are a few dimmable ballasts out on the market. but for the ballast to be controlled by the Profilux it needs a biult in controller that works on 1-10v

Now there is a new Profilux III about to be released there maybe some new developments there
