OK, this is my first thread. I've been reading a lot of the threads already posted (old and new) and have found them to be very useful.

I just bought an Aqueon ProFlex Model 1 for my 54g corner fish tank. When I went to set it up I found that there wasn't a lot of room under the stand to do what I wanted. So I decided to see if I can use the sump on my 75g instead.

Question: The model 1 is only rated up to 55g, but do you think I could use it for the 75g? I don't want to have to buy another sump so soon. Any advice on how to set it up to make sure I don't over do it would be appreciated.

    Thanks

The ratings are just a general idea some people do not use a sump at all. I think the rating goes buy the size of the skimmer that has to fit. An you return the sump? I don't think there will be any problems. Let some one that knows taht sump help you out

I'm going to keep the sump, even if I have to buy another one, I will find a use for it. Thanks for the response.

Generally in this hobby, the bigger the better, please keep this in mind.

When I got into this hobby (casually), 2 years ago, I bought a 29 gallon tank with a hang on the back filter. I did not have any problem since I had a few fish and a shrimp. Then I wanted some softcorals so I got a tiny zoa frag. No skimmer. After that, I decided to set up a sump with the Proflex 1 to have more choices of animals in the tank, especially corals. Drilled the 29, set it up. Added a BTA and a few LPS, everything worked just fine with the fuge in the middle chamber. Still no skimmer (didnt have space either since I used the middle chamber as a fuge). Here is the thread about it. (I took it down since I came across the 90 gallon on the Craigslist.) Anyways, the proflex is very well thought designed sump. If I had money, I wouldve bought the Model 4 for the 90.

So your question was if it was big enough for your 75 gallon. Well, you wont be able to get the full benefit of having a sump with the Model 1. But I would try it anyway just to see how it goes. It might work for you. While I try it out, I would really look into finding a used 30~40 gallon tank to DIY a sump. I know it's intimidating, but it's not hard. So what if your silicone job is not as clean looking as professionally made sump? You should see mine. Besides, it will be behind the doors anyway.

I the proflex 2 on my 57 its big, but it works great except the filter socks are a waste of money to my they get clogged in a week buy off brand but you should be ok to run that model, just make sure youve got an ato unit, mine evaps the most out of the sump
