I no longer am using a canister filter on the tank. But it was an eheim 1262

Thanks for the update. Your tank looks great, dowtish!

My monti isn't plating much at all (it's all one leve - looks similar to your purple monti in shape). I don't get polyp extension from it often either. Does moderate/high indirect flow make it plate more?

Nice video, btw. Very soothing to watch/listen to.

Flow and light was what I was told initially to cause plating or swirls. Which I think in the ocean that is true. But then an experienced reefer of 30 years told me to manipulate the growth by breaking off pieces on the edge and place them in the center of the cap. 2 things happen here. first you get new growth from the spot where it was broken, and most times it will not line up with the original edge. and also the piece you place in the center of the cap will fuse back to the cap and grow at a different height. hence: cool plating and swirling!

That's a good idea. Did you do frag yours like that?

With the purple cap, it was fragged a few times on accident when stuff fell, and I went to retrieve it. I would scrape the edges a little. They are pretty delicate to say the least. Now the green and orange caps I have seem to just grow that way on their own.

A few changes to the tank: new 6 bulb fixture and added brs dosing pumps for alk and cal. My acans are acting funny from the bulb changes, and im still trying to dial in the pumps correctly. Im sure in a few weeks everything will be better than ever.:D
